Twitter Avatar Contest

As some of you may know, our Co-Op Tea Swap is now on Twitter (http://twitter.com/coopteaswap). For the month of December, we held an avatar contest for the swap. As you know, Twitter’s avatars (the small icons unique to each profile) are 50 x 50 and we asked YOU, our Co-Op Tea Swap members to design one for us!

The only guideline, other than the 50 x 50 size requirement, was that the avatar had to be an original.  With that in mind, submissions could include photos found online with a caveat — it had to be modified in some way to make it original. The winner will receive a “special” sample tea package, straight from us – Tea Escapade and Authori+ea.

With all the formalities aside, the winner of the 2008 Co-Op Tea Swap Twitter Avatar Contest is… Mary Sicelof of Savannah, Georgia.  Congratulations Mary!!!  Mary submitted the picture located in the upper left hand corner of this post. Now the next time you visit the Co-Op Tea Swap Twitter page you will be greeted by this warm cup of tea.  We are thrilled to actually have a “face” on Twitter!

Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha Tea

It is always exciting to get a new tea package in the mail. Either from a participant of the Co-Op Tea Swap or from my buddy Jessica over at Authori+ea. Recently, armed with the knowledge that I am a Pu-erh lover, Jessica sent me a sample of Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha. I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I opened my recent tea package and found Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha nestled between several other teas. 

Composition: Compressed pu-erh from the Yunnan Province in China.

Dry Visual: An adorable dark brown almost black miniature tea cake shaped like a bowl.

Dry Aroma: A very mild earthiness. 

Flavor: There are two distinct characteristic flavors that I love about Pu-erhs. First, I love their earthiness. Second, I love their smokiness. Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha is very flavorful, yet I found the earthy quality typical of pu-erhs surprisingly mild. Additionally, Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha contained very little smokiness.

Thus far I have steeped and tasted three cups of Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha to compare the experience. Two infusions from the first mini cake and one from the second. Each cup has been consistent, the distinct flavor of pu-erh was present. Its distinct nature does not require the use of sweetener. Overall, I found Pu-erh Mini Tuo Cha to be a decent cup of tea. Personally,  I prefer a more robust Pu-erh. 

Liquor: A rich reddish brown.

Brewing Time: I was unable to find the brewing time for Pu-erh Mini Tuo-Cha. Thus I played around with the brewing times utilizing three, four, and five minutes respectively.

Caffeine: Yes.

Co-Op Tea Swap is Twittering!

As you know, Authori+ea and Tea Escapade teamed up to establish the Co-Op Tea Swap. The purpose of the swap is to allow tea lovers to connect, get to know one another and of course, swap tea.

Over the last few months we have had fun doing just that. However, one thing that seemed to be missing was a common mode of communication where we could all come together and chat… take a load off… relax… and share our love for tea. Well not anymore…

The Co-Op Tea Swap is now Twittering! What is Twitter? Twitter is a real-time short messaging service. It enables people in countries all around the world, to connect with and follow the people/sources most relevant to them. Where?
