Coconut Pouchong

Last week Steph W. was drinking Coconut Pouchong. This week, thanks to Steph W., so am I. Imagine my excitement upon retrieving the mail to find samples of Coconut Pouchong waiting to be tasted. Once again, I decided to break my no caffeine in the evening rule. Nothing could stop me from giving this tea a whirl!
Composition: Grand Pouchong tea leaves and Essence of Coconut
Dry Visual: Beautiful, richly colored, loose forest green tea leaves with the occasional brown and yellow-green leaf mixed in the batch.
Dry Aroma: Heavenly! The smell of coconut was both pervasive and sweet.
Flavor: Absolutely delicious. The Coconut Pouchong has a distinct naturally sweet coconut flavor. This tea left a clean taste in my mouth while “wowing” my taste buds. It is my normal custom to taste both with and without sweetener, however, I could not bring myself to add a drop of honey to this tea for fear of altering the coconut flavor.
Liquor: Very light green almost clear.
Brewing Time: Recommended 2-4 minutes in freshly boiled water, slightly cooled. I brewed for 4 minutes.
Caffeine: Yes.
Special Note: According to their website, Golden Moon Tea’s Coconut Pouchong flavored tea won the coveted first place “Best Green Tea” competition in the Ice Tea Shake Off competition held by the World Tea Expo on June 9, 2007. Coconut Pouchong is a best-selling blend known for its clean, tropical sweetness.

What is Pouchong?
Pouchong is a very lightly oxidized tea somewhere between green tea and what is usually considered oolong tea, though often classified with the latter due to its lack of the sharper green tea flavours. It is produced mainly in Fujian, China, and in Pinglin Township nearTaipei, Taiwan.
