For the sole purpose of bringing clarity…I am not about to discuss the practice of abstaining from food for medical or religious reasons. Fasting is the name of my tea of choice this morning. While it is purported to help drinkers achieve their weight-loss goals, I simply brewed this cup of tea because it was recommended by a friend.
Composition: This herbal tea was created by the compilation of numerous ingredients. I have listed them for your reading pleasure…
Organic Fennel Seed, Organic Licorice Root, Barley Malt, Organic Cinnamon Bark, Organic Red Clover, Organic Alfalfa Leaf, Organic Gotu Kola, Organic English Hawthorn Berry, Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract, Organic Cardamom Seed, Organic Ginger Root, Organic Clove Bud, Organic Burdock Root, Organic Dandelion Root, Yellow Dock Root, Natural Passion Fruit Flavor, Natural Plum Flavor, Organic Black Pepper, Natural Cinnamon Oil, Natural Cardamom Oil, Natural Ginger Oil
Dry Visual: Various shades of green, brown, and tan – I am sure a representation of the numerous herbs. This is not a loose tea.
Dry Aroma: Black licorice – without a doubt.
Flavor: A bold, full bodied tea, Fasting has a strong black licorice taste – I am sure derived from the two main ingredients – Organic Fennel Seed and Organic Licorice Root. This tea is naturally sweet and can be enjoyed without a sweetener. I tasted both without and later with honey.
Liquor: Gold almost rust in color
Brewing Time: 5 minutes
Manufacturer: Yogi Tea
Caffeine: No
Special Note: You can access Yogi’s Herb Glossary to find detailed explainations for each herb used to create Fasting. There is a warning on the label that states, “Not to be used during pregnancy or while nursing.” I would like to highlight one ingredient in particular as its inclusion in the Fasting brew supports the tea’s weight loss claims - Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract.
What is Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract?
Garcinia Fruit contains the active ingredient hydroxyciteic acid (HCA), which promotes weight loss. A placebo-controlled study in 1999 combined guggul extract with Garcinia cambogia extract and tyrosine. Over six weeks, twenty overweight persons experienced a significant decrease in body fat mass and average body weight. The subjects lost body fat, but not lean mass. Fatigue went down, and there were no adverse effects.
Fasting is not my tea of choice, yet it has a very distinct flavor and fragrance. You may find that this unique blend of ingredients exceeds your taste expectations. Read the label carefully and talk with your physician prior to attempting any weight-loss regiment. Please remember, if pregnant or nursing, you should not drink this tea.
Until my next review… Happy tea drinking!
